Top 10 Tourist Attractions on the Turkish Mediterranean

Here is a run down of the top ten tourist attractions on the Turkish Mediterranean coast.

Ephesus
Don’t miss the dazzling excavated ruins of this ancient Roman city near the town of Selcuk. Wander up the Marble Way, gaze at the reconstructed Library of Celsus and sit in the splendid 25,000 seat amphitheatre.

Bodrum Castle
Built by the Knights of St John in 1402, Bodrum’s Crusader castle is now home to a museum with a fascinating collection of antiquities unearthed up and down the coast. The castle’s Museum of Underwater Archaeology also has exhibits dredged up from beneath the waves.

Oludeniz, Fethiye
The pine-fringed lagoon that appears on most tourist brochures is just as breath-taking in real life – particularly when viewed from a paraglider, soaring off 1,976 metre-high Mount Baba Dagi.

Patara
Protected as a turtle nesting site, Patara is one of the coast’s most dazzling stretches of beach. Stroll for miles across the sand, or explore the ruins of ancient Patara, birth-place of St Nicholas from whom we get the legend of Santa Claus, which are scattered amongst the dunes.

Aspendos
This Roman amphitheatre near Side is the atmospheric venue for the Aspendos Opera & Ballet Festival, a series of concerts and performances held throughout the summer months. Contact a Tourist Office for details.
